DESCRIPTION: Our goal is to provide practical experience within the event management field, by offering both an Event Operations and Event Sales internship.

Student Objectives:

Students are required to outline their objectives for the internship and share with supervisors at the beginning of their internship. This should be submitted as a formal proposal paper respective of a business paper format. Here are some guiding principles for the internship objectives:


  • Gain practical experience under professional supervision to supplement classroom experience and readings
  • Demonstrate an increased understanding of the complexity and diversity of event management responsibilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with event management professionals
  • Examine, refine, and develop personal skills and competencies applicable to a career in the event management industry
  • Establish realistic goals for professional development
  • Increase leadership and communication skills
  • Become familiar with the organizational structure, purpose, and administrative procedures of the organization
  • Identify personal and professional strengths and weaknesses as they relate to a career in event management


Student Responsibilities:

 

Before & During the Internship Experience


It is the responsibility of the student to:


  • Compile all forms, documentation, etc. that would need to be submitted to academic organization. Each item must have a submittal date. All paperwork must be turned into supervisor before internship program begins.
  • Be aware of and cooperate with the philosophies, objectives, rules, regulations, behavior, and dress codes expected by RedWater
  • Perform event management duties as assigned by the Intern Coordinator and supervisor Complete weekly internship logs detailing time and tasks completed, signed by supervisor
  • Halfway through the internship, complete a mid-point internship self-evaluation and turn into supervisor
  • Supervisor to complete a mid-point evaluation form and arrange a time to discuss findings


At the Completion of the Internship Experience


It is the responsibility of the student to:


  • Complete a final self-assessment
  • Supervisor to complete a final evaluation form and arrange a time to discuss findings


LEVEL 1 INTERNSHIP – EVENT OPERATIONS 

 

Description:

This position will provide interns an educational and on-the-job training opportunity which spans event venue management. Hands-on experience in client management and event execution will provide a sound basis for a future hospitality career, especially for those interested in the wedding industry.


  • Interact with vendors day of as they prepare for events
  • Work closely with venue manager and wedding coordinator
  • Execute floor plans and reception timelines
  • Maintain inventory of rental items
  • Provide on-site venue management for rehearsals, ceremonies, and receptions
  • Maintenance of event spaces
  • Set-up and tear-down for events
  • Closeout of events
  • Additional duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • An energetic, hard-working, organized, reliable and outgoing person who will share our passion for doing all we can to make a couple’s wedding day perfect
  • Problem-solving skills a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Someone who will represent RedWater Events to clients and guests with the utmost
  • professionalism
  • Priority given to someone working for academic credit
  • Ability to lift minimum of 30 pounds
  • Available May–October weekends, nights, and weekends

Hours: 20–30 per week


LEVEL 2 INTERNSHIP – EVENT SALES

 

**Applicants must have successfully completed RedWater’s Level One Event Operations Internship or completed a similar type of internship prior to this internship. **


Description:

This position will provide interns an educational and on-the-job training opportunity which spans everything from event planning and sales. Hands-on experience in client management will provide a sound basis for a future hospitality career, especially for those interested in the wedding industry.


  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients and guests
  • Interact with vendors as they prepare for events
  • Network with other wedding and event professionals
  • Work closely with the venue manager and event sales managers
  • Develop BEOs, floor plans, and reception timelines
  • Participate in wedding planning activities
  • Provide on-site venue site tours
  • Participate in BEO preparation and meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned
