Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Director of Manufacturing Engineering  to join our team in Holland, MI.


As an Engineering Director, you will:

Plan, direct, and lead the company’s North American technical manufacturing teams to drive operational excellence.  Lead Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team for North America to ensure high quality, efficient new product launches and explore and implement new technologies and processes to support future business needs.  Lead production/business system performance and drive operational improvement projects that utilize continuous improvement principles of Haworth Management System (HMS).  Creates and sustains innovative, high performing, and motivated culture through strong communication, planning, execution, teamwork, and collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing/Operations leaders on strategies and tactics; specifically, to identify, quantify, compare and execute production process improvements that focus on quality, safety, cost and utilization.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new methods and processes for existing and new product production methods to improve efficiency utilizing the lean principles of the Haworth Management System.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and manage capital process improvement projects within facility to ensure safe, economical, and effective use of materials, energy, and people.
  • Utilizes Value Stream Mapping and other lean techniques, as well as conducting feasibility studies of process and/or design, to build long term improvement plans and implements according to plans.
  • Manage “manufacturing readiness” process for New Product Introduction (NPI) into plants to deliver high quality products on time.  Key elements include evaluating manufacturing process technology and creating value stream maps, determining plant Manufacturing Strategy, validating manufacturing process readiness, ensuring safety of operations, coordinating initial product builds, final product validation builds, and qualifying processes and capability.
  • Manage teams that support long- and short-term manufacturing plans with feasibility evaluations and estimates of required resources.  Develops and recommends strategies to employ new technology.
  • Oversee preparation and facilitation of resource estimates to manage development costs within framework of budget estimates.  Ensures project teams have proper advanced manufacturing resources to support new technologies, projects, and process changes.
  • Coordinate with Operational Leadership teams to ensure consistent application of manufacturing engineering activities across all North American plants.
  • Set expectation for Plant’s Manufacturing Engineering team members core competence and ensure continuous learning plans are in place for all technical teams.
  • Understand engineering tools such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), tolerance analysis, prototype technologies, and manufacturing systems well enough to leverage them to improve cost, quality, and delivery of product and process.

Do you have these required qualifications?


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline, Manufacturing Technology or equivalent area of study.
  • 10 years engineering/manufacturing process improvement experience, with demonstrated experience in driving results through cost reduction, continuous improvement techniques, and quantitative analysis.
  • 5 years management experience. 
  • Must be well versed in the areas of quality, lean, design for manufacturing, tooling, equipment and supply chain.
  • Knowledge of metals, plastics, wood, fabric, paint, fabrication and various production & assembly methods.
  • Experience in a manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to work in Holland, MI onsite.
  • Ability to work in the United States without visa or sponsorship assistance.

  • Master's degree in Business or Engineering.
  • Green belt or black belt certification.
  • New product design experience.
  • Ability to lead in a matrix organization. 
  • Experience with high mix, low volume products.
  • Consumer product manufacturing.
