ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:


Evergreen Commons is a 501.c3, non-profit, community benefit organization serving the older adult population in the greater Holland Michigan area. We have reimagined what it means for older adults to live independently and vibrantly in their residence of choice as long as they are able.


The Wellness Place at 480 State Street, provides platforms and opportunities for adults, ages 55 +, to participate in living life to the fullest by encouraging a healthy lifestyle in all its dimensions: spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional, vocational, financial, environmental, and physical. Our nearly 70,000 sq. ft. offers a fully equipped fitness and pool area, wood-working shop, enrichment activities, educational classes, meal services, and fine arts programs.


The Day Center of Evergreen Commons at 55 W.16th Street, provides the services and programs that help older adults live longer at home. It features a safe and caring environment for adults who need assistance during the day. While caregivers receive much-needed respite, participants benefit from socialization, person-centered programming, and health monitoring.



PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Leads and directs the lifelong learning efforts of Evergreen Commons. Working closely with the President and CEO, the Director of Member and Community Engagement drives experimentation and change by creating and implementing the overall Evergreen member and community engagement strategy and budget. In partnership with the Director of Physical Wellness, the Director of Membership and Community Engagement creates environments where people age 55+ can flourish and live their best life. The Director cultivates and strengthens external partnerships that increase Evergreen’s impact and reach.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Vision casts and serves as a catalyst and promoter for holistic flourishing for 55+
  • Develops and directs life enrichment programs and services
  • Designs and manages the schedule of the building and classes/programs.
  • Lead the Member Engagement Team and Food and Event Team.
  • Promotes the mission and vision of Evergreen Commons to external partners
  • Leads collaboration between staff, volunteers, and other partners
  • With an eye toward the future, provides innovation to Wellness Strategy
  • Manages budget with operational excellence and fiduciary responsibility.
  • Catalyzes a culture of people development, hospitality and customer service.
  • Leads and maintains member management/scheduling software.
  • Lead both internal and external business-related functions, conferences, and events, with the goal of growing Evergreen Commons’ reach and impact.
  • Leads and grows a volunteer rich environment
  • Creates and enforces member policies and guidelines
  • Serves on Evergreen Commons Leadership Team with a spirit of mutual respect, responsibility, and team trust.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree: preferably in social sciences, marketing, sales, business administration, or related field—evidence of ongoing professional development
  • 5+ years of successful and measurable marketing or closely related experience; minimum 2 years of leadership experience; prior experience overseeing a Volunteer Based Program within an organization.
  • 5+ years team leader experience: employee coaching, hiring, accountability, discipline, and terminations.
  • Prior food services, special events experience preferred
  • Passion for and experience in older adult lifestyle programming
  • Excellent communicator who sparks new ideas and can lead people through projects
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven; ability to work and contribute in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, listening, and organizational skills
  • Solid working knowledge of department budgeting preparation and financial statement understanding
  • Knowledge of the West Michigan culture and community values
  • Sound technology skills; proficiency in use of PCs, e-mail, MS Office Suite, etc
