
Educational Support Services Teacher - Holland Christian Middle School
Position Title: Educational Support Services Teacher
Department: Educational Support Services/General Education
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Educational Support Services, the ESS Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction in conjunction with general education teachers to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; Coordinates with general education teachers, paraprofessionals and parents to ensure student goals and objectives are being met.
Essential Duties:
- Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s PEP.
- Co-teaches or provides push in support as needed.
- Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their goals.
- Schedules team meetings and organizes child study team meetings/members in developing instructional goals and strategies.
- Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's NPSP.
- Serves as primary contact for the parent/guardian.
- Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals and teacher assistants.
- Provide Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) supports as necessary.
- Uphold the mission and values of Holland Christian Schools.
- Hold a deep and genuine love for God and all children.
Other Duties:
- Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers etc.) regarding the needs of students.
- Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Promotes inclusive education in all environments.
Qualifications:
- Current Michigan teaching license in required content area.
- Thorough working knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education
- Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction
- Ability to effectively manage a team of multiple providers and communicate with parents/guardians.
- Thorough knowledge of cognitive and learning disabilities.
- Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, utilizing CPI techniques.)
Wage: Wage based on Faculty Scale
