Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Engineering Finishing Technician to join our team in Big Rapids. The level at which you will be hired at is based on experience.
As a Engineering Finishing Technician, you will:
Assists with development and problem solving for new products and implementing design changes for existing products, meeting established quality and performance standards, by applying basic engineering principles under minimal supervision. Documents new or revised methods and processes.
Do you have these required qualifications?
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-year experience in wood/wood finishing, or equivalent
- Ability to lift/move products and parts weighing up to 70 pounds and climb/bend/balance in manufacturing environment. Ability to use power and manual hand tools.
- Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, up to 10% of the time
- Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Ability to work and commute onsite daily to Big Rapids, MI (relocation assistance is not provided)
- Strong color acuity, ensuring precise color differentiation
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous experience in a wood finishing, wood working, wood coatings, or wood abrasive industry
- Good communication and customer service oriented
Ability to work well in a cross functional team environment
- Associate’s degree in technology/engineering field
- 3 or more years experience in wood or wood finishing
Essential Functions
- Completes process qualification requirements and provides production and quality support to provide accurate records and documentation. Completes all paperwork; submits parts and reports to engineer for evaluation.
- Recommends initial selection of process methods and tooling. Completes process flow analysis and documentation; reviews data with engineer prior to system input to ensure maximum efficiency of process.
- Completes development of process methods and labor standards; submits reports and proposed changes to engineers for review and approval. Prepares necessary paperwork for systems update, including member work instruction updates to ensure process accuracy.
- Performs complex inspections, using advanced metrology equipment and layout methods. This includes verification of veneers, colors, and finishes, ensuring conformance to established standards.
- Sets up and operates machines/equipment per production orders and engineering specifications to develop fluid colors.

- Conducts audits (receiving, in-process, and product) to measure conformance to specifications. Selects and inspects products from receipt of raw materials (receiving inspection) to shipment of finished product (product audit), including lifting/moving of products weighing up to 70 pounds (i.e., files, chairs, gages).
- Performs other duties within scope as assigned.
- Must be able to perform all essential job function with/without accommodation.
- Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:
- Must be knowledgeable of basic engineering principles and practices.
- Must be proficient in color perception and knowledgeable of veneer identification/grading.
- Able to set up and operate automated and hand-held spray equipment.
