Job Description | The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2024. The candidate’s specialization is open; however, we are particularly interested in applicants whose teaching and/or research expertise includes indigenous, Womanist, or U.S. women of color feminisms, queer feminisms, and/or faith and feminism. Qualified candidates will have the ability to teach core classes within the WGS curriculum, including Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS 130), Feminist Theory and Methodology (WGS 350), and an integrative Senior Capstone (WGS 494), as well as elective courses in their area of specialization. The ability to teach courses in the area of feminist activism and/or social movements is also of interest. We seek a teacher-scholar who is passionate about educating undergraduates in a small liberal arts environment and will contribute to our vibrant and growing interdisciplinary program, which offers both a BA and minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Academic responsibilities include teaching 9 credits (3 courses) a semester, maintaining an active program of research or creative scholarship, and participating in the continued growth and development of the Women’s and Gender Studies program. Interest or experience in curriculum development and/or program leadership is also highly desirable. In all cases, the successful candidate will have training in Women’s and Gender Studies, a commitment to pedagogical excellence, a promising scholarly record, and interest in working in collaborative interdisciplinary settings. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to all aspects of Hope’s mission as a liberal arts college. We are grounded in robust ecumenical Christian aspirations and daily strive for inclusive excellence. While Hope students represent a mix of Christian and other (or no) religious backgrounds, the college’s faculty, administration, and staff are committed to the Christian faith as expressed in the ecumenical creeds of the ancient church. As part of the application, we ask all candidates to describe how they will engage and support the holistic mission of the College, particularly how their commitment to the Christian faith, the liberal arts, and inclusive excellence shapes their approaches and identities as teachers, scholars, and mentors. Review of applications will begin on October 20, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, please submit all materials by October 20, 2023. Inquiries about the position or program can be directed to Dr. Carrie Bredow (Director of WGS and search committee chair; bredow@hope.edu).
