Diversity, Equity and Inclusion News and Updates
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that all members of our community feel welcome in Downtown Holland, we are joining our friends at Out On The Lakeshore in celebrating Pride month all June long! A number of our Downtown Holland businesses are partnering with Out On The Lakeshore to offer Pride month specials, which you can view on the flyer found here. Even if you are not participating in the promotion, Out On The Lakeshore is happy to provide you with a free rainbow pride flag to hang inside your front window or outside your business in place of your regular "open" flag. If you are interested in receiving a flag, please contact us at email@example.com.
The City of Holland's Human Relations Commission is offering a free "Queer and Trans 101" training for community allies and they are extending the invitation to all of our Downtown Holland businesses! Presented by the GVSU Inclusion and Equity Institute, this free two-hour training will help participants gain a working knowledge of terminology and concepts related to the LGBTQIA+ community as well as basic allyship skills for creating more inclusive and affirming environments. The online training will take place tonight at 6:30 pm and again on Thursday, June 3 at 6:30 pm. You can register for the the online training session here.
Beginning today, Downtown Holland is accepting proposals for a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant to assist our organization and our businesses in our DEI efforts. With the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and the racial injustice facing our nation, the Principal Shopping District has committed to taking the next step in ensuring that all feel invited, welcomed and engaged in Downtown Holland by hiring an expert in the field of DEI to assist in our efforts. Please help us spread the word by sharing the link to the City's RFP page. Proposals will be accepted from applicants through Thursday, July 1.
