Downtown Holland To Host Popular Holiday Open House This Saturday, November 19

If you’ve never experienced the magic of Downtown Holland during the holiday season, this is the night you won’t want to miss! This Saturday, November 19, a total of 50 shops and restaurants will open their doors from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm for the annual Downtown Holland Holiday Open House. During the Holiday Open House, residents and visitors alike are invited to stroll the beautifully decorated and brightly lit heated streets while shopping for holiday gifts you won’t find anywhere else. Shops and restaurants will be welcoming customers with free gift wrapping, holiday refreshments, merchandise discounts, fun giveaways, and more during this popular event! The event also features appearances by Santa and his favorite elf, a reindeer petting corral, strolling carolers, chestnut roasting, and the Snowflake Express Trolley. The Holiday Open House is proudly sponsored by Greenridge Realty Holland.

The heated streets of Downtown Holland will be decorated for the Holiday Open House with thousands of twinkling holiday lights, a brightly lit Christmas tree, and custom designed urn planters installed by the City’s Parks Department. The Holland Chorale’s costume Dickens Carolers will be strolling throughout Downtown Holland singing Christmas carols during the event, in addition to carolers from Central Wesleyan Church and Ventura Baptist Church. Volunteers from Downtown Holland will also be roasting chestnuts outside of GDK Park on 8th Street. Everyone is invited to stop by for a free sample of a traditional taste of the holidays!  

Santa can also be spotted strolling during the Holiday Open House, greetings fans young and old alike and posing for photographs near the Downtown Holland Christmas Tree in GDK Park. And be sure to keep an eye up (yes, up) for one of Santa’s stilt-walking elves! Santa’s reindeer will here too, located in a petting corral in Musician’s Park on Central Avenue between 8th and 9th Street. And for the first time ever, Holiday Open House attendees can also take a free tour of 8th Street on the Snowflake Express Trolley! Just hop on and off at the Splash Pad next to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel. The team from Greenridge Realty will also be downtown during the Holiday Open House passing out fun freebies to attendees, including reusable shopping totes for all of your holiday gift shopping!

Holiday Kerstmarkt

Beginning Saturday, November 19

Shop for hand-crafted gifts, fresh greenery, holiday décor, and baked goods from local artisans housed in wooden booths at this European-inspired outdoor market at the Eighth Street Market Place outside the Holland Civic Center. The Holiday Kerstmarkt also features live music performances, food trucks, dog sled demonstrations, and more!  The Holland Farmers Market, hosted by Downtown Holland, is also open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm all November long and from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday, December 3, 10, and 17 with local famers and vendors offering fresh produce, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, specialty foods, and so much more!

Small Business Saturday

Saturday, November 26

Downtown Holland will join communities throughout the country in celebrating Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 26! Our shops and restaurants want to thank you for shopping small this holiday season and all year long with giveaways, discounts, and lots of fun promotions at over 50 participating shops and restaurants! Be sure to enter our annual Small Business Saturday Selfie Contest too! Just snap a photograph of yourself shopping in Downtown Holland on Saturday, November 26 and share it on our Facebook page or tag #downtownholland on Instagram for a chance to win a $100 gift card to your favorite Downtown Holland business! The winner will be announced on Monday, November 28. Thank you for supporting our locally owned businesses!

Parade of Lights

Tuesday, November 29

Santa Claus arrives in Downtown Holland during the annual Parade of Lights, escorted by over 75 floats, trucks, antique cars, walkers, and marching bands...all decked out from top to bottom in thousands of sparkling lights! This brightly lit holiday procession on Tuesday, November 29 is fun for the entire family and a holiday tradition for the entire community! The Parade of Lights will begin at the corner of 8th Street and Columbia Avenue at 6:30 pm and proceed west down 8th Street until it reaches the Holland Civic Center Place! 8th Street will be closed for the Parade of Lights, but free public parking can be found in the parking lots on 7th and 9th Streets, in the 7th and 9th Street Parking Decks and at the Holland Civic Center Place. For crowd safety purposes, there will be no handing out of candy during the procession. The Parade of Lights is proudly sponsored by Gentex Corporation.

Sinterklaas Eve

Friday, December 2

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Children are invited to celebrate Sinterklaas, the Dutch St. Nicholas, with a lantern-lit procession at the Holland Civic Center Place as part of this traditional Dutch event! Families should meet at 6:00 pm at the Eighth Street Market Place outside of the Civic Center to receive a free paper lantern while supplies last.  Sinterklaas will welcome families at 6:20 pm, then lead a traditional procession around the block, ending at the Warming Hut at the Holiday Kerstmarkt. There, Sinterklaas will great families and pose for photographs until 8:00 pm!

Strolling Santa

Heading to Downtown Holland to do a little holiday shopping this season? Be sure to keep your eye out for Santa Claus himself!  Downtown Holland’s very own Santa Claus will be strolling 8th Street every Friday night in December to greet customers, pose for photographs, and bring a little magic to your holiday shopping experience. Be sure to say hello if you spot Santa out doing a little local shopping of his own on from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on December 2, 9, 16, and 23! 

Magic at the Mill

Fridays and Saturdays | December 2 – 17

5:00 pm – 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Hosted by Windmill Island Gardens and the Holland Area Visitors Bureau

Introducing Magic at the Mill, the first ever holiday event at Windmill Island Gardens! This ticketed event will feature a 'tulip field' of 1,000 LED blossoms displaying a synchronized light and music show. The windmill and park grounds will be lit up and attractions such as the carousel, street organ, and shops will be open. There will also be an opportunity for children to greet Sinterklaas (the Dutch predecessor of Santa Claus) along with snacks and beverages available for purchase. Magic at the Mill will be a family friendly experience fun for all ages! Non-refundable tickets must be purchased in advance and are $10 for adults ages 16 and up, $5 for children ages 3-15, and children 2 and under get in free!

Shopping Jam

Saturday, December 17

The early bird gets the...deals at the annual Downtown Holland Shopping Jam! Set your alarm clocks and grab a cup of hot coffee because this is one holiday savings event you won't want to miss! As part of the Shopping Jam on Saturday, December 17, participating businesses will open their doors early, offering 30% off at least one item from 8:00 am - 9:00 am and 25% off at least one item from 9:00 am - 10:00 am.

Whether you're just starting your holiday shopping, or you need just one more special gift to finish off your nice list, this is one sale you won't want to miss! Discount details vary so please see participating businesses for specific savings details. It’s the perfect opportunity to “wrap up” your holiday shopping while enjoying amazing discounts!
