Holland Farmers Market Announces New Community Outreach Partnership with Higher Health Chiropractic

Holland Farmers Market Announces New Community Outreach
Partnership with Higher Health Chiropractic

Holland, MI – The Holland Farmers Market is pleased to announce a new Community Outreach Partnership with Higher Health Chiropractic of Holland for the upcoming 2021 Market season. As part of the partnership, the Holland Farmers Market and Higher Heath teams will work together to launch several new community programs at the Market, including a Bridge Card Incentive Program, a Kids Produce Program and a Healthy Eating Video Series. The Market will for the 2021 season at the Eighth Street Market Place in Downtown Holland (150 West 8th Street) on Wednesday, May 12 and will be open every Wednesday and Saturday following from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, rain or shine.

“Higher Health has long been a supporter of the Chef Series and Kids Activities at the Market,” said Holland Farmers Market Marketing Coordinator Kara de Alvare, “With concerns over Covid-19 forcing us to cancel those events for the second year in a row, they approached us and asked how they could still support our community outreach efforts in a safe and unique way. We’re really excited that Higher Health shares our strategic goal of ensuring that everyone in our community has access to fresh, healthy and local food and we’re thrilled about the new programs we’ll be able to launch this season with their generous support.”

As part of the new Bridge Card Incentive Program, Bridge Card holders can receive a punch card on their first visit to the Market and get their card punched every time they visit the Market and use their Bridge Card to get tokens to spend on fresh local foods. For every five punches on their card (up to 15 total), they can choose from a selection of free gifts, including custom Higher Health tote bags, healthy recipe cookbooks and an assortment of cooking utensils and supplies.

The goal of the Bridge Card Incentive Program is to encourage Bridge Card users to become repeat customers of the Holland Farmers Market, with the long-term goal of healthier dietary outcomes among the underserved in the community. Because the Holland Farmers Market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks Program, Bridge Card Customers can “double up” their tokens and receive a matching amount of tokens (up to $50) for free to spend at the Market on fresh local foods.

Children will be able to purchase their own fresh fruits and vegetables at the Holland Farmers Market as part of the new Higher Health Kids Produce Program launching this summer too. Children can visit the Higher Health table right outside the Holland Civic Center Place to get their very own “dollar” to spend on a piece of fruit or a vegetable of their choosing at the Market, that they can then take home to enjoy as a healthy snack.

Market vendors will then turn their Kids Produce Program “dollars” into Market staff to be fully reimbursed as part of the partnership with Higher Health. The goal of the Kids Produce Program is to encourage children to make healthier food choices by making them an active part of selecting which foods they get to eat.

The Higher Health team will also be producing a series of Healthy Eating Videos each week, featuring interviews with farmers at the Market that highlight what produce is currently in season, how it’s grown and how it can be prepared. The video series will also feature cooking demonstrations with local chefs featuring seasonal ingredients. Videos will be available to the community through the Higher Health email newsletter, The Market Beet email newsletter and on social media, with the goal of encouraging the community to learn more about the benefits of eating seasonal foods by learning easy and delicious new ways of preparing them.

"We are proud to support the Holland Farmers Market again this year,” said Dr. Andrew White, Owner and Chief Practitioner at Higher Health Chiropractic of Holland. “Covid has been stressful for our community, and we are excited about the initiatives we are rolling out this year at the Market to support our local kids, farmers and chefs. Make sure to stop by our table each Wednesday and Saturday at the Holland Farmers Market to learn more!"
