Holland Farmers Market Opens for the 2023 Season on Wednesday, May 17!

Holland, MI – The Holland Farmers Market will officially open for the 2023 season this Wednesday, May 17 at the Eighth Street Market Place (150 West 8th Street) in Downtown Holland! The Market will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, rain or shine. Each season, the Holland Farmers Market brings together over 75 local farmers, specialty food vendors, and food trucks, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, bread and baked goods, eggs and meat, honey, maple syrup, jams, gourmet specialty foods, and so much more. Customers are always encouraged to shop early in the day for the best product assortment!

When the Market opens on May 17, customers will be able to shop for early spring produce like asparagus and rhubarb, along with greens like spinach, kale, and microgreens, and a number of root vegetable varieties, including carrots, onions, potatoes, and turnips. Vendors will also have annual and perennial plants, hanging flower baskets, and porch pots for sale. And as always, customers can find bread, baked goods, sweet treats, honey, jam, maple syrup, fish, meat, eggs, and a variety of specialty gourmet and ready to eat foods available. Beginning on Saturday, May 27, customers ages 21 and up can also purchase mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, and canned cocktails to sip on Saturdays while shopping at the Market.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the start of the 2023 season of the Holland Farmers Market,” said Marketing Coordinator Kara de Alvare. “We joke that opening day should be an unofficial holiday in the City of Holland. After a long and cold Michigan winter, there’s really nothing like the joy of strolling the Market on a warm and sunny spring day. We are really looking forward to another season of connecting the community with fresh, healthy, and local food and we can’t wait to welcome back all of our farmers, vendors, and returning customers.”

Bridge Cards and Pandemic EBT cards are both accepted at the Holland Farmers Market. The Market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks program, allowing Bridge Card holders to “double up” their spending at the Market to get an additional $10 in free tokens to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. Senior FRESH and WIC Project FRESH are also accepted at the Market. Customers are encouraged to visit the Market desk inside the front vestibule of the Holland Civic Center for details on using food assistance programs at the Market. Market Bucks gift certificates are also available for purchase inside the Civic Center. Market Bucks are accepted by most vendors and never expire. While a number of vendors accept do accept credit cards, customers are encouraged to have cash on hand or to visit the ATM inside the Civic Center if needed.

AlignWell Chiropractic is also returning to the Market as the exclusive Community Outreach Partner for 2023. Thanks to their generous partnership, the Holland Farmers Market will be continuing its popular Bridge Card Incentive Program and introducing an all-new Power of Produce program for children starting in June. The Kids Activities, sponsored by Corewell Health of Zeeland, will also return to the Holland Farmers Market this summer. The Kids Activities will begin on Wednesday, June 14 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am and continue every Wednesday through August 16. Each day begins with Market Story Time hosted by the Herrick District Library, followed by a fun, educational, and hands-on activity for kids hosted by a partner organization in the community.  The Market will also be launching a new monthly Summer Enrichment Series of classes for adults this season, along with a new line of Market merchandise featuring the award-winning poster design by artist and graphic designer Taylor TeBos.

“AlignWell is excited for another year of partnership with the City of Holland and the Holland Farmers Market,” said Dr. Andrew White, owner, and chief practitioner at AlignWell Chiropractic. “It has been such an honor and pleasure getting to know the makers and farmers that make our market exceptional.

We truly appreciate the opportunity to highlight their stories and the importance of shopping locally.

Make sure to watch for our weekly interviews highlighting the health benefits in-season foods available at the Market too!”
