
Holland Symphony Orchestra and Music Director, Johannes Müller-Stosch announce the 2023-2024 Concert Season with a roster of exceptional soloists and
Season tickets, single tickets and brochures are available from the Symphony office by phoning 616-796-6780, the website at www.hollandsymphony.org or by mail at PO Box 2685, Holland, MI 49422. The five-concert Season Ticket subscription includes the four Classics concerts at the Jack H. Miller Center at Hope College and the Holiday Concert. Adults are $125 and Students (through college) are $25. Seats at the Concert Hall at the Jack H. Miller Center are assigned. Seating at Dimnent Chapel and Holland Civic Center are general admission. A special season ticket for new, first-time subscribers is available for $99 by calling the symphony office. Single tickets, on sale as of August 1st, are $28 per adult and $5 per student for all season concerts. Holland Symphony and its concerts are partially underwritten by Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Community Concert: Music Unites Us will take place on Saturday, August 12 at 7:00pm at Kollen Park. (The rain location will be Holland Civic Center.) The concert is partially underwritten by MillerKnoll Foundaion, Gentex, a grant from Macatawa Area Coordination Council, Macatawa Bank, and The Brooks Family. HSO welcomes five local diverse groups and artists to the stage celebrating the wonderful reality that Music Unites Us! Guests are Samuel Nalangira, vocals and Ugandan folk instruments; Nina Tritenichenko, Ukrainian accordionist; Grupo Super Nova, Mexican Tejano Band; Cuong Luong, Vietnamese singer; and Julia LaGrand, a local student violinist. Join us as we together play exciting and uplifting music from around the world. Food Trucks will include: Mezkla, Crepes by the Lakes, Abeshi Ghanian Cuisine, and Robinson’s Popcorn. Community partners include I AM Academy, Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance, Latin Americans united for Progress, West Michigan Asian American Association and Lakeshore Disability Network. This is a FREE concert to the community.
The Planets on Saturday, September 30 at 7:30pm is the first concert of the fall season with Alon Goldstein, pianist as guest artist. The concert is sponsored by the Stuart & Barbara Padnos Foundation and the Louis & Helen Padnos Foundation. The concert features the magnificent and powerful works, “The Planets” by Holst and Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. Goldstein is a leading Israeli pianist. A pre-concert talk will take place on Thursday before this concert at 3:00pm on the 6th floor at Freedom Village in Holland (145 Columbia Ave.). There will also be a pre-concert video available on the website one week before the concert.
Brahms 3 will be Saturday, October 28th at 7:30pm at the Concert Hall at the Jack H. Miller Center, Hope College. The concert is sponsored by Floyd and Caron Farmer. This concert will begin with a short work of African American composer John Wineglass about the pandemic called “Alone Together.” Aaron Berofsky, back by popular demand, will perform a Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. The Symphony No. 3 by Brahms will close the program. A pre- concert talk will take place on Thursday before this concert at 3:00pm on the 6th floor at Freedom Village in Holland (145 Columbia Ave.). Holiday Concert, Celebrate the Season, features Steve and Allison Martin, tenor and soprano soloists, performing many popular favorites with HSO! This concert is sponsored by Corewell Health and the Camy Thompson Memorial. The two holiday concerts consist of seasonal light classics, traditional carols, and holiday pops in the gorgeous setting of Dimnent Chapel at Hope College on Saturday, December 9th at 3:30pm or 7:30pm. Make the annual Holiday Concert part of your family tradition. (No pre-concert talks.)
Surprise Symphony is on Saturday, March 9th at 7:30pm at the Concert Hall at the Jack H. Miller Center, Hope College. The concert sponsors are: Ann and John Query. The guest artist will be Sarah Southard, Principal Oboe of HSO performing the Goossens Oboe Concerto. Opening the concert will be “Two Pieces for Small Orchestra” by Delius followed by “Danzas de Panama” by Still. The Symphony No 94 the “Surprise Symphony by Haydn will close the concert. A pre-concert talk will take place on Thursday before this concert at 3:00pm on the 6th floor at Freedom Village in Holland (145 Columbia Ave.). Night at the Opera will close the HSO season on Saturday, April 27th at 7:30pm. Guest artist Brittany Logan, soprano. Logan is in her second year in the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Program. She will sing “Four Last Songs” of Strauss and “Summertime” by Gershwin. The orchestra will also add Prelude to “Die Meistersinger” by Wagner, Suite to “Der Rosenkavalier” by Strauss, and music from Bizet’s “Carmen.” This concert is sponsored by George and Sibilla Boerigter. A pre-concert talk will take place on Thursday before this concert at 3:00pm on the 6th floor at Freedom Village in Holland (145 Columbia Ave.).
