Local Food Relief Effort Kicks Off 2021 Season

Harvest Stand Ministries to Extend Program that Helps Farmers & Families

Harvest Stand Ministries will repeat its Farm to Families Local Food Relief Effort in 2021 and seeks to raise $10,000 to fund the program.

Through the program, a partnership with several community organizations, Harvest Stand Ministries purchases fresh produce directly from local farms and distributes it through local food pantries.

“We launched the Local Food Relief Effort in 2020 because farmers and families in West Michigan were facing economic challenges of historic scale due to COVID-19,” said Jordan Palladino, Executive Director of Harvest Stand Ministries. “Farmers were struggling with reduced business due to schools, restaurants, and farmers markets closing or limiting their operations. Resource-strapped families were turning to food pantries to get enough to eat.”

In light of the program’s success in 2020 (32,400 pounds of produce was purchased and distributed through local pantries to 4,395 families) and continued need in the community, it is being repeated this year.

“This program has been a godsend,” said Bruce Michael Wilson, owner and operator of Groundswell Community Farm. “It helped the farm defray expenses, keep workers employed, and get food to people in need.”

To raise the $10,000 needed to fund the program (which runs from July through September) this year, Harvest Stand Ministries has started a GoFundMe page. Every dollar will be matched, bringing the total to $20,000 for the program. To support the Local Food Relief Effort or learn more, visit
