Look Up…Way Up for This Week’s Street Performer Series Guest Performer!


Holland, MI – After an exciting kick-off last week, the Downtown Holland Street Performer Series continues this Thursday, June 21 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm! The entire community is invited to experience the sights and sound as performing artists and groups from every background line 8th Street to perform free for the public every Thursday evening through August 18. Each Thursday evening features 25 different performers, including musicians, balloon twisters, caricature artists, dancers, henna tattoo artists, and more. The Street Performer Series is proudly sponsored by Gentex Corporation, with additional support from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council through the Holland Area Arts Council.


In addition to the 24 performers lining 8th Street this Thursday, attendees are encouraged to look up…way up for this week’s featured guest performer! Stilt-walker Steven Thompson from Hire The Circus will be strolling all throughout Downtown Holland on Thursday from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm! Hire The Circus is a Grand Rapids-based professional circus and entertainment company. Their repertoire consists of a wide variety of sideshow acts, balloon twisting, puppetry, aerial acrobatics, fire juggling, sword swallowing, stilt-walking, and more.  Hire The Circus has performed regularly at the Street Performer Series in Downtown Holland, in addition to performing at sports arenas, festivals, corporate functions and fairs throughout the Midwest.


Attendees should note that 8th Street will be closed to traffic and parking from College Avenue to River Avenue from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Thursday nights to accommodate both the street performers and the crowds. Free public parking for the event is available in the surface lots off 7th and 9th Streets, in the 7th and 9th Street Parking Decks and at the Holland Civic Center Place. While the Series is free to attend, tipping the performers in cash is customary.


The Downtown Holland Social District is open during the Street Performer Series for the first time this year, meaning patrons ages 21+ can purchase an alcohol beverage at a participating establishment to enjoy while strolling throughout Downtown Holland during the event.  For a list of participating establishments, the social district regulations, and the district boundaries, please visit www.downtownsocialdistrict.com.

Henna by Anna

Anna Schierbeek is a full-time artist who holds both a BFA and MFA in drawing from Kendall College of Art and Design. While she enjoys working in her studio, she loves to combine her passion for art and meeting people to by drawing henna tattoos, which she has done for the past 12 years at the Series.



Henna by Jahara
Jahanara Begum has been a Street Performer in Downtown Holland since the beginning of the Street Performer Series. She is a highly skilled and experienced henna artist who uses all natural ingredients that are safe for the skin. Her designs never fail to impress her fans of all ages!


Easy Does It

Easy Does It features musicians Dean Michaels on the harp and Greg Howard on the guitar.  This duo has been performing their mix of classical music and popular tunes together at weddings, dinner parties, receptions and church services for over 30 years.


Dan Mutschler
Dan Mutschler is a self-taught and talented balloon artist who performs regularly at birthday parties, scouting events, art fairs and more.  He has over 17 years of experience and is constantly learning new designs to share with young and old alike.


Flow Like Water

Flow Like Water is break dancing crew that performs regularly at festivals and events throughout West Michigan, bringing the crowd to their feet wherever they go. Their high energy and hip-hop beats are only matched by their amazing dance skills.


Gavin Frody

Gavin Frody is a talented cellist who also makes up half of the group Cellissimo.  His musical background consists mainly of orchestral classical repertoire. He is a Street Performer Series regular, who also performs regularly at concerts and special events.


Giggles and Chuckles
Giggles and Chuckles, aka Lia McCormick and Chau Le-Tran, have over 10 years of experience twisting balloons into hundreds of shapes, including flowers, animals, helicopters, wands, swords and more. They have performed at over 600 children’s events, in addition to performing regularly at the Street Performers Series and the Holland Farmers Market.


Gracenotes

Highschoolers Erin Gorby, Alethea Peckham, and Samantha Wheeler make up the musical trio Gracenotes. Together they performer a blend of folk tunes, classical music, and hymns on a variety of instruments. They have been performing together for the past four years at their church, the local library, and assisted living facilities.


Grant “Funky” Frabe

Grant Frabe is an entertaining bassist with over a decade of musical experience who performs popular and iconic dance tunes from the 1960s to today using a loop system. He loves to get the audience dancing and encouraging everyone to get funky!


Greg Phillips with Group Therapy

Greg Phillips performs both solo and with his bandmates that make up the cover band Group Therapy (Erik Johnson, Scott Leglightner, and Rick Trubiro). Greg has close to 60 years of musical experience behind him on guitar, harmonica, and vocals.  He performers regularly at bars and concert venues.


Hannah Comes

Hannah Comes is a singer and ukulele player from Muskegon, whose past experience include four years of choir in high school, participating in numerous school musicals, and performing at the Lakeshore Art Festival. She is excited to make her Street Performer Series debut this summer!

Jair

Jair Driesenga is a singer-songwriter with over 15 years of experience expressing himself through music. He has shared the stage with national touring acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Verve Pipe and also hosts the weekly Open Mic nights at the Park Theatre in Downtown Holland.


Jake “Michael Jackson” Thompson

Jake Thompson been dancing like Michael Jackson for over five years, ever since seeing being inspired by a video of Jackson performing “Smooth Criminal” live. Jacob has performed at high school talent shows and other special events and can’t wait to perform on the streets of Holland again this summer.


Kaylie McConnell

Kaylie McConnell is a Street Performer Series regular who wows audiences with an electric violin and loops system, which she uses to play everything from classical music to popular hits.  She has over a decade of experience as a classical violinist and began playing the electric violin five years ago.


Lia Weiss-Gelmi

Recent high school graduate Lia Weiss-Gelmi has been playing piano and signing since the age of nine, performing at musicals, plays, and at choir and band concerts. She will be attending Central Michigan University in the fall to study Music Education.


Maddy Grace

Maddy Kok is a local college student who has been singing for as long as she can remember. She taught herself guitar when she was 1 years old and began performing publicly in middle school.  She has a passion for sharing her music with audience at church, school, and on the streets of Downtown Holland.


Nick May is Fire

Nick May is a spectacular performer with 15 years of experience who blends dance, theatrics, and music to bring his performances to soaring heights of awe-inspiring grace and professionalism. Nick specializes in breath-taking, extraordinary, and multi-talented fire performances.


Noah Helmus

Noah Helmus is a Hope College graduate with a passion for music and performing. He has been singing and playing guitar since he was 11 and has performed at choir concerts, in musicals, and for his fellow college students since that time.  Noah began performing in the Street Performer Series in 2019.


Socks and Soles

Albert Geemen and Jamison Worst make up the musical duo Socks and Soles. They play a mix of acoustic folk covers and originals and have been regulars on the coffee shop music scene for the last 10 years.  They love to interact with the crowd at the Street Performer Series on Thursday nights.


Steve Tamayo

Steve is a dad to two beautiful daughters and the owner of “Steve’s Twisted Balloons.” He started twisting balloons for family and friends at birthday parties just two years ago.  He is excited to make his Street Performer Series debut as a balloon twister this year!


The Night Caps

The Night Caps are West Michigan's premier rockabilly lounge band. Rooted in early rock-n-roll, blues, surf, jazz, and Bossa Nova, the band includes members John Kite, Kirby York and Jim Bob Ewing. The individual members of the band have performed coast to coast since 1993, but came together to form the Night Caps in October of 2017.


Third Class Flynn

Third Class Flynn is an Irish music busking duo, comprised of husband-and-wife Ray and Cindy Veen. Dressed as the characters Michael and Mary Flynn, Irish immigrants from the late 1800's, the Flynn's tell their story through the music of Ireland: folk tunes, dance tunes, pub tunes, laments and more.


Two-Take Wonder

Two-Take Wonder is made up of college students and lifelong singers and musicians Dani Canan, Shayna Gibson, and Charis Snyder. Together, they put a unique spin on arrangements of pop, folk, singer-songwriter, and jazz covers with ukulele, guitar and vocals.


Violet Clare

High school student Violet Clare is a singer-songwriter from Grand Rapids. Surrounded by bands like Wilco, Radiohead, and The Shins growing up, she began writing as early as she can remember. Best described as alternative indie music, Violet writes songs for her ukulele that are focused on raw and honest lyricism.
