This March, Go Orange with Kids’ Food Basket!

March is National Nutrition Month, when people across the country recognize the importance of eating healthy food. However, barriers to food equity still stand in the way of many Michigan families. Join Kids’ Food Basket (KFB) and PNC Bank to Go Orange during the entire month of March to raise awareness and resources for childhood hunger.

KFB is grateful to PNC Bank for once again sponsoring the Go Orange campaign.

“For seven years, PNC has teamed up with Kids’ Food Basket to support Go Orange month,” said Sean Welsh, PNC Regional President. “To show our support, PNC employees will be volunteering at Kids’ Food Basket in Kent and Muskegon counties and raising awareness of childhood hunger by wearing orange on Friday, March 24. I encourage everyone in our community to Go Orange and join us!”

All month long, local business and organizations, such as Lacks Enterprise, Gentex Corporation, Trinity Health and the Muskegon Museum of Art will engage in a friendly competition by participating in activities that break down the barriers to food equity in West Michigan, such as volunteering together.

More than 60 local schools will participate in KFB Week from March 20 to 24, when student will learn about food insecurity and be connected to immediate actions, such as Wish List drives, that that can make a difference.

Everyone can get involved to Go Orange. Play Tic-Tac-Go Orange! and complete a row to win a prize. Dine at a restaurant partner, decorate brown bags or schedule a tour or volunteer shift at one of KFB’s three locations in Kent, Muskegon or Ottawa counties.

“Food insecurity is a problem that affects too many people in West Michigan, and there are things that we all can do to help,” said Ashley Diersch, Vice President of Development at Kids’ Food Basket. “Every year, we are inspired by how our community answers the call to Go Orange with us.”

The public is encouraged to wear orange and drop off Wish List items during Go Orange Day on March 24.
