Two Exquisite New Collections Come To
The Arts Council
The Holland Arts Council is pleased to announce two new exhibitions: Real People and The Joy of Life. Real People presents the work of Catherine McClung and is on display in Lievense Gallery from May 13th to July 6th. The Joy of Life showcases the paintings of Lenore DePree, the Arts Council’s Artist-in-Residence, in Padnos Gallery from May 14th- July 10th.
McClung describes her exceptional body of portraits as a "collection of personalities and unique individuals that I have met and felt inspired to paint in watercolor". She states that "The community of man is a whole lot of folks, young and old souls that give life to the different countries and towns where they live and grow. Striving forward together, we cradle and love, raise and teach, worship and work, generation upon generation."
DePree’s oil paintings are a combination of realism and design. They explore the presence of joy in everyday life- not in momentous occasions, but in the simple things we do- tending a garden, going to the beach, dining outdoors, sitting by the waterfront, walking the street with friends in the Springtime. After being a resident artist for seven years at the Holland Area Arts council, Lenore has become “The lady in the Window’” painting and interacting with people on the street. She smiles and waves, and they give her a thumbs up and hold their children up to take a look.
The public is invited to two Artist Meet & Greets for each exhibition respectively. The Meet and Greet for Real People is scheduled to take place at the Arts Council from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, May 13th. The Meet and Greet for The Joy of Life is Thursday, June 3rd from 5:30-7:30 pm.
