As Director of Client Services at West Michigan Law, it is my pleasure to help draft legal documents, manage client workflows and estate plan signings, and collaborate with other professionals. I studied Political Science and Religion as a Hay Scholar at Carthage College. Focusing specifically on Public Law and Judicial Politics, these studies fueled my love for justice and excellence as a part of the every day. I graduated summa cum laude with an award for “Outstanding Senior in Political Science.” 

I am an Ambassador with the West Coast Chamber of Commerce, a member of Inforum, and I formerly served on the board of directors for the Noon Rotary Club of Holland. Networking and continuing education enhance my ability to serve people and promote growth in all areas of our community.

I currently reside in Holland, Michigan with my wonderful husband Lucas, a fellow Carthage College alum. We currently have four children. (Ask me why we need more foster parents in Michigan!) I love learning ballet as an adult and going for hikes with my Doberman-Lab mix, Dublin.

Kathy was born and raised in South Haven. She comes from a family of entrepreneurs as her father has owned his own trucking company since she was nine years old, her mother owned a couple different businesses in her life as well as her brother owns and operates a small engine repair business. 

She started her career cleaning vacation rentals when she was 21 years old in Saugatuck at a bed and breakfast and learned quickly how much she enjoyed the chaos and hustle of the rental industry. She then started her cleaning business in 2009 from the trunk of her car with her 16 year old daughter, Brandy, as a way for her to earn extra school clothes money that summer. Kathy went on VRBO and started emailing owners offering her cleaning service. She got 2 cottages right away and Calico Cleaning still cleans those two homes today.

The following spring she did the same thing again and got 4 more. That following year she had to hire her first “helpers.” And Calico Cleaning was born. 

In 2011 Calico Cleaning’s first office opened on Dyckman Ave. in South Haven. Quickly outgrowing that office they moved the following year to a little bigger office and have moved 3 more times since then. Each time outgrowing the office. Calico Cleaning expanded to open a second office in Holland just recently. 

To date, Calico employs 20 full-time employees and 35+ seasonal employees and takes care of 200+ properties. Offering not only residential, and vacation rental, but also commercial office cleaning.

During Covid, Kathy joined a cleaning business program called Cleaning Business Fundamentals to help her and her team learn how to manage the challenges of that time. Since joining the program, her and her team have gone on to become certified in their industry through ISSA and the ARCSI nationally and Kathy was asked to become a Certified Cleaning Business Coach for the program in June, 2023 and now coaches other cleaning business owners all over the United States and Canada. 

Kathy is also a mentor for the South Haven Business Hub and works closely with Debi Howe on the project helping other business owners in South Haven excel in the community.
