Advocacy in Action means having access to elected officials, being informed about issues that impact our community, and advocating for a business-friendly environment. Each month will feature a guest speaker on a timely topic followed by updates from our State Legislators, all designed to keep you in the know on issues impacting our community. We look forward to inviting you into our space for open and constructive dialogue.

About Lt. Governor Gilchrist II

Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, a software engineer by training, has dedicated his career to using data-driven solutions to improve the lives of Michigan families. From expanding economic opportunity and affordable housing to reforming criminal justice and healthcare access, he has led bipartisan efforts to make government more effective and equitable. As chair of Michigan’s COVID-19 Racial Disparities Task Force and statewide justice reform initiatives, he has championed transformative policies that promote fairness and opportunity. He has also helped connect thousands of homes and businesses to affordable high-speed internet and supported innovation across the state. Lt. Governor Gilchrist lives in Detroit with his wife, Ellen, and their three children.

About Secretary Benson

Jocelyn Benson is Michigan’s 43rd Secretary of State and a national leader in secure, accessible elections. She oversaw Michigan’s 2020 and 2022 elections, which saw record-breaking turnout and unprecedented security, earning her the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award and the Presidential Citizens Medal. Benson expanded voting rights, implemented over 250 post-election audits affirming accuracy, and transformed customer service at the Secretary of State’s office by doubling online services and reducing wait times. A Harvard Law graduate, former dean of Wayne State University Law School, and expert in election law, she authored State Secretaries of State: Guardians of the Democratic Process. Benson also champions government transparency, military families, and women in sports, serving as chair of Michigan’s Task Force on Women in Sports.
