Part-Time Full-Year Custodian
Hamilton Community Schools has an opening for a part-time full-year (12-month) custodian at the Middle School and invites hardworking self-motivated individuals to apply for this position. The Custodian provides general custodial/maintenance services for the district and reports to the Custodial Services Supervisor and Building Principal.

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt
STARTING DATE: ASAP
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time full-year (20 hours per week) 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm during the school year. Start time will be earlier in the summer.
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: Hamilton Custodial/Maintenance Association (HCMA)
PAY SCALE: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement ($17.57/hr Base) plus $1.50/hr night premium for hours worked 3:00 pm and after.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by a person in this position. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties that may be performed by such a person.
- Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors and other surfaces.
- Cleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishes.
- Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
- Cleans whiteboards, board rails, and erasers.
- Washes/cleans light fixtures.
- Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment.
- Sweeps or shovels snow from steps, roofs, and walks at building entrances and salts icy steps and walks as necessary.
- Collects, bags, and disposes of trash.
- Locks/unlocks doors and windows to classrooms and offices.
- Turns off unnecessary lighting.
- Cleans and services lavatories, toilet rooms, and locker rooms.
- Washes all interior and exterior glass including framed pictures, partitions, and doors.
- Reports items that require repair.
- Follows written work schedule.
- Coordinates work with the Master Custodian, Custodial Supervisor, and/or principal.
- Assists with the operation of school heating plant and equipment.
- Guards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry; maintain building security.
- Works from ladders or scaffolding.
- Maintains and operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
- Does emergency cleaning as needed (e.g. blood, vomit, burst water pipes, etc.).
- Vacuums, spot cleans and extracts carpet as necessary.
- Performs all assigned duties in a manner that contributes to the safety and well-being of the staff and buildings.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Adhere to all policies of the District.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisor, administrators, and school community members.
- Promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities/training when necessary.
- Performs all other custodial/maintenance duties assigned by supervisors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required, college or trade school classes preferred.
- Possess good habits, character, and attendance records.
- Be neat in appearance.
- Detail oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
- Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance.
- Demonstrates dependability and promptness
- Contribute to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting high professional standards
- Provide a foundation for integrity, pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, and teamwork
- Be capable and demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of harmonious, effective relationships with staff, supervisors, students, and the community.
- Possess experience in custodial and maintenance work to carry out the assigned duties preferred.
- Possess a willingness to learn new job skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.
