135 Years in the Making: O-A-K Marks a Milestone with New Faces, New Markets, and a New Office in Central Michigan

(Grand Rapids, MI) June 25, 2026 – Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. (O-A-K), a construction management firm with offices in Michigan, Florida, and Colorado, is marking 136 years in business with a series of moves that reflect where the company is headed. Over the past six months, O-A-K has added 57 employees across all three states; opened a new office in East Lansing to serve Central Michigan partners; and welcomed three senior leaders who will help guide the firm’s next chapter.

In 1891, the people of West Michigan were building something. So was Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. One hundred and thirty-five years later, neither has stopped. This year, O-A-K arrives at its own milestone — not with a ceremony, but with momentum. Fifty-seven new team members. A new office in Central Michigan. Senior leadership additions across three states. The firm that has been part of this region since before the automobile, before the airport, before nearly everything that defines modern Grand Rapids, is stepping into its next chapter with the same conviction that built the first 135.

On the people side, the growth has been deliberate. Nancy Johnson joined as Chief People Officer, bringing more than 20 years of experience in organizational culture and talent strategy, including three years working alongside O-A-K’s executive team as a consultant. Robert Rotchadl stepped in as Senior Director of Strategy and Finance with an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and nearly two decades in construction-related industries. In Colorado, Todd Trueman came on board as Director of Preconstruction, bringing more than 30 years of estimating and preconstruction leadership to the firm’s growing Rocky Mountain operations. In Southwest Florida, Keri Looker joined as Business Development Manager, where she is deepening O-A-K’s presence in Collier County across education, healthcare, aviation, and government markets.

“This company has been part of Grand Rapids for 136 years, and that’s not something we take lightly,” said Frank Stanek, PE, President and CEO. “When we look at this city turning 175 and a country approaching 250, we feel the weight of that history and the pull of what’s still ahead. Growing our team, opening new offices, and investing in the kind of leadership that carries a company forward — that’s how we honor what was built before us.”

The 57 new team members span every corner of the business, from project management and field supervision to preconstruction, finance, marketing, and human resources. Their collective experience ranges from recent graduates joining through O-A-K’s internship pipeline to seasoned professionals with three and four decades in the industry.

O-A-K’s new East Lansing office extends the firm’s reach into Central Michigan, a region where O-A-K has built lasting client and trade partner relationships over many years. Tom Shanley, Director of Central Michigan Operations, will lead the office and bring 25 years of commercial construction experience to the region.

“Expanding our presence in Central Michigan is a natural next step,” Stanek said. “Our employees live here. Trade partners and community relationships are already in place. Opening an office in East Lansing allows us to deepen those relationships and gives our partners the experience of working with O-A-K people who are members of their own community.”

As O-A-K enters its 136th year, the firm’s footprint now spans seven offices and three states, working across seven industries: K–12, Higher Education, Commercial, Community, Government, Healthcare, and Aviation. The next chapter, leadership says, looks a lot like the last 135: grounded in people, built on trust, and committed to the communities where O-A-K works.
