Core responsibilities:


  • Provide consistent and accurate customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Process incoming and outgoing transactions for all payment types (ACH, Wires, Instant Payments, Online Banking Transactions, etc.).
  • Responsible for setup and processing Positive Pay.
  • Balancing, processing, and customer contact related to the bill pay platform.
  • Researching payments requiring further attention, including communicating with other financial institutions where applicable
  • Problem Solving various issues related to one or multiple platforms and how they interact.
  • Understanding basic rules and regulations for various payment channels.

A Look into Your Day


As a Digital Payments and Operations Intern at Mercantile Bank, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Digital Banking payment channels. Your daily responsibilities will include processing transactions for both internal and external customers while adhering to the bank's standards, policies, and compliance regulations. You will gain hands-on experience with various digital payment platforms, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of online banking systems.


Familiarity with iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and tablets will enable you to provide exceptional customer service and technical support for our online and mobile banking services. You will assist with a variety of payment types, including ACH, Wires, and instant payments, while also troubleshooting and resolving issues. By logging support calls into our CRM system and managing related tasks, you will contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction and operational excellence throughout the organization.


What We're Looking For


To excel as a Digital Payments and Operations Intern at Mercantile Bank, a diverse skill set is essential. Proficiency in basic computer programs, particularly Microsoft Office and online banking applications, will be crucial for managing daily tasks efficiently. A strong working knowledge of mobile devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Android devices, is necessary to effectively provide customer support for our online and mobile banking platforms.


Interpersonal and customer service skills are vital for delivering a positive experience to both internal and external customers. Organizational skills and attention to detail will ensure accuracy in transaction processing, while effective time management allows you to meet deadlines consistently. Strong verbal and written communication abilities will aid in conveying technical information clearly.


Lastly, analytical and problem-solving skills will empower you to address issues proactively and effectively. A two-year college degree or equivalent experience is preferred, providing a solid foundation for this role.
