
Behavior Technician
Job Summary:
The Behavior Technician (BT) works among a multidisciplinary team, under the guidance of the Behavior Consultant to provide targeted behavioral supports to students with challenging behaviors in compliance with student positive behavior support plans. The BT provides direct support to students with special needs in a center based educational facility to aide in developing academic and functional skills, improve social interactions, and reduce challenging behaviors.
Essential Job Functions:
- Collect accurate data on student IEP and behavior plan goals.
- Follow evidence-based behavioral interventions and practices.
- Input behavior data and incident reports into school wide data collection system.
- Assist in teaching communication, social, self-help, and academic skills.
- Support generalization of skills across environments.
- Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and organizational standards.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other team members to ensure consistency of interventions.
- Attend required trainings, professional development, team meetings, IEP and staff meetings.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors using district approved intervention strategies.
- Assist students with personal care needs including toileting, feeding, grooming, and personal hygiene.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, individuals with moderate to severe disabilities, or in an educational/clinical setting preferred.
- RBT Certification is not required, however, completion of the 40 hour RBT Training is required.
- Direct BCBA Supervision hours are not provided by the Behavior Consultant.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to problem solve and think critically.
- Ability to remain calm during critical situations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other education-based software.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting as needed to support student care and participation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and the community.
- Commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audio logical appliances and devices to increase mobility.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach regularly throughout the school day.
- Ability to move quickly in emergencies to ensure student safety.
- Provide support for students with mobility challenges, including guiding, positioning, or physically assisting with activities of daily living.
- Lift 25-50 lbs with or without mechanical assistance.
Compensation and Details:
- Pay: Starting at $22.07 Per Hour
- Schedule: Full-time, Year-round, 190 days
- Employee Group: non-union hourly
- Benefits: Full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. MPSERS provided retirement plan.
- FLSA: non-exempt
