LOCATION: Blue Star Elementary

START DATE: 2025-2026 School Year

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position will also provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for:

  • Design and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that align with Michigan Early Childhood Standards and district curricula.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and active learning.
  • Maintain discipline by following the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Prepare the classroom and/or learning environment for all learning opportunities. 
  • Assess and monitor student progress through observations, screenings, and formative assessments; maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.

Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have a valid Elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate with one of the following endorsements: K-5 All Subjects, K-8 All Subjects Self-Contained Classrooms (ZG), Early Childhood PK - General and Special Education (ZS), Early Childhood Education (PK-K) (ZA),

Lower Elementary Education (PK-3) (ZO), K-8 All Subjects (ZC), or General Elementary K-6 (ZE)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Experience teaching in a Young Fives, kindergarten, or early childhood classroom.
  • Familiarity with integrating technology into early childhood instruction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, and state.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SALARY RANGE: Per HEA Master Agreement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds.
