Job Description
Hope College Campus Safety is seeking part-time Event Officers to support campus events throughout the school year. Event Officers play a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment for students, staff, visitors, and event participants. This position is ideal for individuals with prior law enforcement, security, military, probationary, or dispatch experience who are looking for meaningful part-time work in a collegiate setting. Event Officers are responsible for providing security, safety, and assistance to students, employees, visitors, and attendees during Hope College athletic events and other campus functions. The primary objective of this role is to maintain a safe and secure environment by proactively enforcing Hope College policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible presence to promote safety and create a positive, welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
- Assist with parking operations, including directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic in stadium areas.
- Provide emergency medical response to sick or injured individuals.
- Coordinate parking and special accommodations for attendees with specific needs.
- Deliver clear, direct, and professional communication with event staff, attendees, campus personnel, and partner agencies.
- Engage proactively with students, faculty/staff, and visitors to strengthen community relations.
- Support outside law enforcement and first responders during incidents occurring on college property or during events.
- Assist with crowd management and crowd control during events and emergency situations.
- Support evacuation procedures when required.
- Participate in operational trainings and meetings as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a minimum of two years of prior law enforcement, security, or military experience. Experience may also include probationary officers or dispatchers.

- Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to connect and communicate with individuals from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- De-escalation: Ability to calm and manage tense or volatile individuals and situations.
- Radio Communication: Ability to receive and relay information over a two-way radio clearly and concisely.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
