Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Corporate Counsel - Compliance to join our team at Haworth Global Headquarters in Holland, MI.
As Corporate Counsel, you will:
Provide legal and strategic support in building Haworth’s compliance program. This role combines legal and business expertise to ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations across the organization. You will collaborate with colleagues at all levels globally, identifying, assessing, and mitigating compliance risks, while delivering practical legal advice that aligns with business objectives and goals. Execute legal strategy within the organization, providing thought leadership and expert counsel on complex legal matters with significant business impact. This position requires a professional capable of resolving complex compliance issues, driving our culture, and contributing to the company’s success through proactive risk management and actionable solutions.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law within the United States.
- Military Equivalency at www.mynextmove.org/vets/find/military
Work Experience:
- 7 years of related experience working at a large law firm and/or publicly traded company on environmental and sustainability regulations, international compliance issues, managing internal investigations of financial misconduct and whistleblowing allegations, anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, trade sanctions, and whistleblowing.
In addition:
- Ability to travel up to 10 percent of the time internationally.
- Applicants must be able to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance.
- Applicants must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with US environmental and sustainability regulations.
- Experience with European and state-specific environmental regulations.
- Prior in-house counsel experience in regulatory or compliance position(s).
- Experience working in companies that have an international and manufacturing operations with annual revenue of $2.5 - $5 billion.
- Experience in building processes using systems and applications such as Navex Global Hotline, Conflicts of Interest, and Risk Rate modules (or similar applications).
- Experience using Microsoft Software, in particular working with Teams and Sharepoint.
- Experience using LegalTracker and other data analytics.
Essential Functions
- Support day-to-day management of the company's compliance, regulatory, and governance programs.
- Help coordinate governance structure, policies, procedures, and processes related to legal compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Identify emerging legal, compliance, and regulatory risks that could impact Haworth and working with cross functional teams to facilitate risk mitigation strategies through policy development, process improvement, and trainings.
- Partner with relevant business colleagues to ensure appropriate risk oversight of relationships with third parties, such as customers, suppliers, intermediaries, and public procurement, federal, state, and local government contracting agencies.
- Advise on diverse compliance and regulatory topics and policies, such as anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, economic and trade sanctions, fair competition, environmental and sustainability regulations, and whistleblowing.
- Influence and champion a compelling vision and strategy for a particular subject area or desired solution, aligning with overall business objectives and driving legal excellence.
- Under the direction of the Legal Director, participate in large-scale transformation initiatives to enhance the impact and value of the legal function across the organization.
- Influence enterprise-wide legal policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency, compliance, and best practices.
- Using verified information, provide rationale for influencing the needs of the Legal budget and adhere to the approved budget.
- Foster a culture of innovation, exploring and implementing new technologies, processes, and approaches to enhance legal effectiveness and efficiency.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align legal strategies with business goals and objectives.
- Continuously monitor industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in the legal field to maintain a competitive advantage and drive continuous improvement.
