Job Summary
We have 2 Engineering Designer openings on our Tailored Solutions team in Holland, MI. This is on-site position, however, after a sufficient training period (likely 6 or more months), this will offer 1 work day per week remote.
Tailored Solutions (TS) is a strategic enabler for Haworth that unlocks sales volume that would otherwise not be available. About 12% of North American sales volumes comes through Tailored Solutions, and the prevailing conventional wisdom is that TS sales “pull through” an equivalent amount of standard product sales, which means we influence about 25% of the overall sales volume. We work in a fast paced and dynamic environment with a variety of dealers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners across a wide range of products. In this role, the member will execute designs (including CAD and BOM deliverables) for newly ordered Tailored Solutions. This fast pace and wide variety differentiate this role from more traditional engineering design roles within a standard product engineering function.
Job Responsibilities
- Operates as communicator within our business groups as well as Haworth as an organization. Has a strong internal network and may be involved with NPI or Marketing strategies in a Tailored Solutions design role.
- Displays a level of understanding of multiple product lines, with a well-rounded understanding of the full Haworth SOL.
- Assists in engineering layouts for major projects or complex products, using appropriate Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools (personal computer [PC] or workstation), via keyboard/mouse, to accurately present design concept. Establishes initial multi-dimensional model base features, using tool.
- Assists with analyzing designs for proper form, fit, and function, including basic manufacturability, assembly, and disassembly, using CAD tools and/or calculator, to ensure design and documentation of new and existing products meets established quality and performance standards.
- Makes initial selection of materials, common or generic parts, and engineering standards for designs, using catalogs, reference books, other product drawings, or basic engineering principles.
- Develops engineering assembly and detail documentation to support Tailored Solutions new designs.
- Prepares engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECMs), Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, engineering specifications, and other supporting forms, either manually, using PC-based word processing and spreadsheets, or CAD, to maintain clear project documentation.
- Assembles tailored product, using power and hand tools. Lifts/moves parts weighing up to 60 pounds. Interfaces with production areas for information gathering and pilot product development activities.

- Ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- High School or equivalent; Certification or vocational training
Work Experience:
- Minimum 1 year experience in computer aided design (CAD), design engineering, or manufacturing.
- Parametric 3D solid modeling (PTC Creo, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor or similar).

Additional Required Qualifications:
- Applicant must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for the position.
- Ability to work and commute onsite daily to our headquarters in Holland, MI.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in engineering design field or similar
- 4 years design/drafting experience
- PTC Creo product design experience
- Experience working in systems with configurable BOMs (Including SAP variant configuration and other similar systems)
Ideally, you have demonstrated the following:
- Champion for change – Develops experience with project management tools
- Provided solutions during continuous improvement projects
- Knowledgeable of applicable global standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and Canadian Government Test Standard (CGSB) preferred.
