Job Description    

The role of the Event and Conference Manager at Hope College involves spearheading the development, coordination, and supervision of a diverse range of campus events and conferences. Within the Events and Conference Office, our staff operates collaboratively, embracing shared responsibilities. Situated within the Auxiliary Enterprise division, the manager plays a crucial role in unifying and supporting the college community. This includes fostering the embodiment and expression of the Hope brand in everyday life, interactions, as well as internal and external events. As a prominent ambassador of the Hope College brand and mission, the Manager is unwaveringly committed to delivering exceptional hospitality, effective communication, and outstanding customer service.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and coordinate events and conferences for the Hope College campus.
  • Detail events, including catering, technical support, and room setup for the Haworth Hotel and campus events.
  • Invoicing of events for clients.
  • Provide or share night and weekend coverage responsibilities on a regular basis (20-25 times per year).
  • Provide business support in the office
  • Provide supervision and support to students working in the office.
  • Take on projects as requested or assigned.


Qualifications    

  • Ability to learn and work with multiple software programs.
  • Experience in invoicing and/or business processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Flexible schedule and ability/willingness to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, including working with a wide range of constituents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise good independent judgment.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment, with willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to think critically, creatively, and analytically.
  • Ability to problem solve, maintain multiple ongoing tasks on a tight deadline, and to maintain collegiality and productivity under pressure.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • The ability to laugh, learn, and be friendly are essential.



Physical Demands    

This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
