Job Description
The medical assistant performs delegated tasks under the supervision of nursing or clinical providers. Throughout the academic year, the MA works alongside health center staff to care for students and assist with smooth care delivery.
- Obtain pertinent history and vital signs
- Setting up and maintaining clinical equipment
- Review medications
- Phlebotomy (if not currently performing, would need to be willing to train)
- Perform point of care tests as directed, such as rapid strep, urine dipstick, monospot
- Review and provide after visit summary upon visit departure
- Recording in EHR (electronic health record)
- Coordinate patient care with outside agencies
- Administer first aid or basic wound care
- Stocking of clinical supplies in exam rooms
- Administer vaccines, TB tests, or epi pens
Qualifications
- Preference given to successful completion of accredited medical assistant program.
- Three to five years work experience as Medical Assistant preferred
- Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills and effective communication
- Demonstrates commitment to serve students at Hope College, including support of the mission of Hope College and a capacity to work with college students.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
