Job Description
This position is a 40 hour/week subject to emergency call-ins. All other overtime must be approved by supervisor.
  • Install and troubleshoot various electrical devices such as breakers, transformers, switchboards, lighting, motors, motor controllers, frequency drives, fire systems and conduit systems, etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all electrical devices as per the NEC.
  • Estimate material requirements to accomplish the above mentioned duties as well as submit recommendations to supervisor concerning electrical devices.
  • Perform required testing of emergency lighting and exit signs.
  • Conduct all work in accordance with electrical and building codes, and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, such as but not limited to:

     

    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical appliances including ranges, range hoods, exhaust fans, etc.
    • Setting up for special events and happenings on and off campus.
    • Helping others outside this skilled position as requested by supervisor.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency after-hours needs.
Qualifications
  • Possess a Journeyman Electrician’s license with at least 5 years of experience in commercial and residenitial electrical work.
  • Have a high school diploma and a valid drivers license.
  • Must pass a physical examination and possess no physical limitations which would inhibit work performance
  • Ability to work with computer programs to monitor and record work.
  • Ability to stay on task, be a self-starter, and work without direct supervision
  • Familiarity with electrical circuits, motors, reading electrical one line diagrams, reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Basic knowledge of high voltage infrastructure.
  • Able to assist with planning for sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Arc Flash NEC codes as it relates to the job
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of working with hand and power tools
  • Capable of adapting to changing circumstances and maintain positive relationships with coworks and the campus community.
  • Able to work from ladders and lifts on a regular basis.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or position for frequent periods of time; sometimes includes crouching, bending, and having to work in confined spaces or on ladders. This position often works in non-climate controlled spaces. Occasionally involves moving and lifting items over 25 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities. In the case of temporary or permanent condition(s) that require(s) accommodation(s), reasonable accommodation(s) may be requested.
