Job Summary

This hands-on Quality Engineering Supervisor role will oversee quality assurance activities while serving as the in-plant subject matter expert, guiding technicians' work and implementing/auditing quality systems procedures with limited direct reports. As the sole quality engineer in the facility, strong technical skills are required to utilize statistical methods for continuous process and product improvement in alignment with engineering and production teams. Applicants should have extensive quality engineering experience enabling autonomous problem-solving and decision-making per company standards.

Essential Functions

  • Address performance issues: Address performance issues in a timely and professional manner, providing coaching and support as needed.
  • Assign and oversee projects and tasks: Assign projects and tasks to team members, ensuring clear understanding of objectives, deadlines, and quality standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations: Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, promoting member engagement, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment: Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting open communication, teamwork, and a shared commitment to excellence.
  • Monitor team performance and provide feedback: Monitor team performance, track progress against goals, and provide regular feedback to team members.
  • Innovates and enhances processes, tooling, and equipment through research and development. Evaluates gaging requirements, costs, and alternatives, and formulates quality plans to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets.
  • Reviews Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to update and prepare necessary documentation, including first piece inspections, inspection instructions, and process potential studies, as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for closure.
  • Applies statistical techniques, tolerance analysis, and process potential studies to ensure new tooling and equipment meet corporate SOPs and plant specifications. Develops and implements corrective action plans to address non-conforming processes or tooling.
  • Manages and maintains corrective action systems for internal and external failures, ensuring efficient and effective problem identification, prioritization, and resolution. Conducts both internal and external audits.
  • Contributes to and executes quality deliverables for New Product Introduction (NPI) budgets, Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) design reviews, gaging, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), and reliability goals, reporting to project leaders or plant staff as assigned.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements quality and reliability plans for major projects. Monitors test progress to ensure compliance with specified parameters and reports results to Quality managers or project leaders.
  • Creates and initiates systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting on plant operations.  
  • Must be able to perform all essential job function with/without accommodation.
  • Uses office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.
  • Performs other duties within scope as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant field of study
  • Education Equivalency: Associate Degree plus 2 years additional quality engineering or other engineering experience OR 4 years additional quality or other engineering experience
  • 3 years of quality engineering or other engineering experience.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Applicants must be able to work in Conover, NC without relocation assistance.
  • Applicants must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Able to effectively use the suite for tasks like document creation, data entry, presentations, and email communication.
  • Experience participating in and/or leading continuous improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing principles such as kaizen events, 5S, visual management, standard work, and value stream mapping.
  • Knowledge of lean principles including JIT production, pull systems, and TPM
  • Experience working in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to production processes and equipment.
  • Experience using SAP software.
  • American Society of Quality Control Certified CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer) certification.
