Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Product Engineer to join our Tailored Solutions team in Holland. The level hired in at will be based on experience, minimum requirements are listed on this posting.

As a Tailored Solutions Product Engineer, you will:

 

This position serves our customers with a focus on cohesive quality from quoting through documentation. This individual utilizes their technical background to investigate the use of/or develops use for new materials, processes, and new product concepts for Haworth. Tailored Solutions is an important enabler to unlock sales volume that would otherwise not be available to Haworth. About 12% of our North American sales come through Tailored Solutions, and the general convention is that the TS sales “pull through” an equivalent amount of standard product sales, which means we influence about 25% of the overall sales volume. We work in a fast paced and dynamic environment with a variety of dealers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners across a wide range of products. In this role, the member will respond to multiple requests per day for non-standard products, evaluate their feasibility, determine costs, and provide responses in support of project bids in a quick timeframe. This role will also support our Engineering Designer members to ensure high quality outputs that meet the design intent of the external customers.

Do you have these required qualifications?

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline or similar 
  • High level of PC and CAD Skills
  • Experience in a design engineering position
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have the ability to understand geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Ability to creatively design, analyze, and document product designs on multiple projects
  • Current and continuing right to work in the U.S. without visa or sponsorship assistance from Haworth
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days a week in Holland, MI 
  • Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, up to 10%

Do you have these preferred qualifications?

  • Experience in manufacturing industry
  • Experience in Wood (Laminate and Veneer) and Metal (Sheet metal fabrication)
  • Product Development experience for Commercial / Contract furniture highly desired 
  • Experience requesting and reviewing quotes from suppliers
  • Experience utilizing formal problem solving / continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with an ERP system, specifically SAP

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

  • Self-directed. You take ownership of your work and need no prompting to drive productivity, change, and outcomes  
  • Proficient in translating complex technical concepts into easily understandable language for individuals without a technical background
  • Design, development, and project management skills
  • Ability for innovative technical accomplishments, as demonstrated through prior design drawings, patent awards, technical publications, and market success
  • Knowledgeable BOM understanding and experience
  • Knowledgeable with CAD and 3D modeling
  • Ability to quickly learn/master Haworth product lines
  • Acting as a champion for change - Executes HMS tools
  • Ability to provide solutions for continuous improvement
  • Establish a network to work cross-functionally 
  • Leadership skills to manage projects through quote and documentation
  • Knowledgeable of applicable global standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and Canadian Government Test Standard (CGSB)
