Explore Zeeland from the Inside Out: Tickets on Sale Now for the Zeeland Historic Home Tour

Zeeland, MI — Step beyond the sidewalks and into the stories of Zeeland’s past during the Zeeland Historic Home Tour, happening Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Presented by the Zeeland Historical Society, this self-guided tour offers a rare opportunity to explore the interiors of some of Zeeland’s most beautiful and storied private homes.

From cozy Craftsman bungalows to elegant Tudors, each featured residence tells a unique story about the people and design that have shaped Zeeland’s neighborhoods over the past century.

“These homes represent a spectrum of architectural styles found throughout Zeeland,” said Audrey Rojo, Curator at the Zeeland Historical Society. “Some have been carefully restored, while others have been modernized—but together, they tell a compelling story of how adaptive architecture continues to serve and reflect the needs of a growing community.”

Discounted early bird tickets are available for $25 through August 14. After that date, ticket prices increase to $30. Tickets can be purchased online at https://zeelandhistory.org/events-exhibits/ or in person at the Dekker Huis Museum (37 E. Main Ave.).

“This tour is a rare opportunity to explore the interiors of historic Zeeland homes that are usually only admired from the sidewalk,” said Katelyn VerMerris, Executive Director of the Zeeland Historical Society. “We are so thankful to the homeowners willing to open their doors and bring neighbors and history lovers together in a fun and meaningful way.”

Participants will receive a full guidebook on the day of the event and may visit the homes at their own pace. Advertising space is still available in the printed tour program for interested local businesses through August 22.

All proceeds support the Zeeland Historical Society’s mission to preserve and share the region’s rich heritage through exhibits, education, and community programming.

About the Zeeland Historical Society

The Zeeland Historical Society connects the past with the present to inspire future generations. Through the collection, preservation, and interpretation of local history, we celebrate the rich heritage of Zeeland and its neighboring communities. Our two properties—the Dekker Huis Museum and the New Groningen Schoolhouse—offer exhibits, programs, and resources that spark conversation and welcome all visitors. Foundations: A Journey Through the Built Environment

This year’s tour also complements the Society’s current exhibition, Foundations: A Journey Through the Built Environment, now on view at the Dekker Huis Museum. While the exhibit explores the evolution of Zeeland’s infrastructure, architecture, and preservation efforts, the home tour offers a deeper, more immersive experience, bringing history to life through the lived-in stories and interiors of the homes themselves.
