Nominations Sought for Employers Promoting Social Justice
The City of Holland’s Human Relations Commission invites members of the West Coast Chamber of Commerce to nominate area businesses for the 2024 Social Justice Award for Employment.
We are seeking nominations of employers that have taken steps to support a diverse workforce and demonstrate their corporate commitment to social justice endeavors in the community.
Past recipients of the Social Justice Award for Employment have gone to:
- Request Foods for providing 75 migrant workers with housing and transportation and by generously donating their products to local nonprofits and families in need.
- Gentex Corporation for recruiting and training employees for Spanish-speaking OEC final assembly lines, thereby increasing their number of Spanish speaking employees from 0-200 since 2020.
- Spartan Nash and its Family Fare Supermarkets for their commitment to employing veterans and persons with disabilities, supporting local food pantries, and advocating for the fair treatment of migrant farm workers.
For more than 25 years, the city’s Social Justice Awards have recognized individuals and organizations who exemplify the virtues of social justice by promoting equal opportunity and equal access for all residents in the areas of Housing, Education, Employment, Government/Community Relations, Health Services, and Accessibility. Nominations can be submitted online at www.socialjusticeawards.cityofholland.com. The deadline for submission is Monday, December 9, 2024. Award recipients will be notified in December and recognized at the Social Justice Awards ceremony at City Hall in January 2025.
