Ottawa, Allegan County Expansion Projects Contribute To State Of Michigan Award For Excellence In Economic Development

Gentex Corporation and LG Energy Solution Michigan garner national attention for  projects creating significant number of new jobs

ZEELAND, Mich. - Lakeshore Advantage is pleased to announce that two Ottawa and Allegan County employers played a significant role in the State of Michigan receiving the prestigious Silver Shovel Award from Area Development Magazine. Gentex Corporation and LG Energy Solution Michigan, Inc. have been instrumental in promoting economic development in the state, contributing to the success of several key initiatives.

The annual Shovel Awards recognize states that have achieved success in attracting high-value investment projects, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth. Michigan was recognized for its outstanding efforts in these areas, particularly in the manufacturing sector, where it has attracted a number of new projects and created many new jobs. States submitted a maximum of twelve projects. LG Energy Solution and Gentex Corporation were submitted as top-twelve projects and directly contributed to Michigan receiving the award.

“We are proud to continue to grow our roots in Michigan,” said Neil Boehm, Chief Technology Officer of Gentex and Chair, Lakeshore Advantage Board of Directors. “We feel fortunate to have access to a rich talent pipeline, robust infrastructure, and the resources to expand our global business here. With our facility expansions in West Michigan, we will be able to continue to leverage our core competencies as well as utilize emerging technologies to respond to the changing industries we are active in.”

Lakeshore Advantage has been a driving force behind the economic growth in Ottawa and Allegan Counties, the first- and fourth-fastest growing counties in the state of Michigan over the last ten years. The economic development organization works closely with state and local partners to promote investment and job creation. The contributions of Gentex and LG Energy Solution have been particularly significant in this regard. The two companies’ expansion projects announced last year are estimated to create a combined 1,700 jobs.

"We are thrilled to see the State of Michigan receive this prestigious award, and we are proud to have played a part in its success," said Jennifer Owens, president of Lakeshore Advantage. "The award underscores West Michigan’s lakeshore as an inviting place for industrial business expansion."
